Judy Bass has over thirty years of experience in the media and entertainment industries. Judy started her career at the law firm of Rogers & Wells (now Clifford Chance) as a litigation associate working on matters for a variety of publishing and other clients. She then went in-house and worked as a business and legal affairs executive in premier media and entertainment companies as follows:

Marvel Entertainment, Vice President of Business and Legal Affairs

Senior business and legal affairs attorney in Law Department and member of senior management team. Responsible for structuring, negotiation and drafting of agreements for motion picture, television, and live theatrical exploitation of Marvel’s vast character library, including underlying rights deal for Spiderman musical on Broadway, animated and live action television and video production and distribution, independent film financing, videogame, music and other licensing deals. Counseled publishing division on matters including copyright, talent agreements, advertising, circulation and distribution with respect to comic books, graphic novels and other publishing projects. Supervised licensing attorneys and theatrical development manager.

CBS Enterprises, Vice President, Business Affairs and Operations

As head of Business Affairs for CBS Enterprises for nearly seven years, responsible for the structuring and negotiation of all contractual arrangements for CBS Broadcast International, CBS Video and CBS Consumer Products for the worldwide television, domestic cable and home video distribution of all CBS-owned and acquired programming for CBS Entertainment, CBS News and CBS Sports. Negotiated international distribution, format and domestic cable deals. Handled merchandise licensing and representation agreements. Oversaw profit participation and royalty reporting for acquired properties and supervised the Operations Department of CBS Enterprises.

Sports Illustrated, Director of Business Affairs

As first and only business affairs lawyer in division, responsible for all aspects of the deal-making process for SPORTS ILLUSTRATED and SPORTS ILLUSTRATED FOR KIDS including video production and distribution, television programming, models, photographers and other talent agreements, books, calendar and merchandise licensing, advertising sponsorships and advertorials, software development and negotiation of Time Inc. Olympic TOP sponsorship agreements.

For over nine years, counseled the editorial and publishing staffs of the Magazine Group in all aspects of publishing ranging from pre-publication review to copyright, trademark, libel and privacy, advertising, and circulation promotion matters.
